2019 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance – First place in the Zagato Centennial Postwar Class

Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato KKR’s ground up restored 1962 Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato Coupé #0186/R takes first place in the Zagato Centennial Postwar Class at the 2019 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The DB4GTZ is also awarded the Vitesse Elegance trophy and was one of four cars nominated for Best of Show.

A few words from over the pond…….

The KKR team did the VERY heavy lifting on this project, the owner asked me to help KKR with details (sometime large – like reshaping the nose!) of authenticity in order that the car be presented as close to 1962 factory as we could make it.

This was a great team effort but I want to mention a few aspects:

This was a total rebuild undertaken over ten months. I know of no one in the world that could do that and certainly not to the quality that KKR has achieved.

(I am working on another Zagato in the UK, it’s now in year 4 with another year to go……)

  • The calm dedication and professionalism of everyone at KKR is just fantastic. The whole team was a joy to work with.
  • The attention to detail at all times was 110%.
  • The pursuit of quality was relentless.
  • Unlike most other restorers, there is only humility in KKR, no arrogance of the sort that many shops suffer from.
  • The end result was spectacular. Andrea Zagato came to me afterwards to say well done and how close the car was to getting best in show.

The Pebble win is an enormous achievement and though I have been a very happy part of the team; the folk at KKR deserve the lion’s share of the credit.
